tHE ART OF LEAF-WEAVING

I've seen croton or kuroton (in Japanese) in countries with tropical climate like Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and also in Okinawa, Japan. I recall seeing them everywhere but I did not know their name nor did I even give them a second look. Recently, I saw it as an artpiece. I then decided to take a closer look at the leaves and took a video of them.
A dear friend of mine who is an oshibana artist in Japan weaved the pressed and dried leaves into a simple art piece. What is interesting about this form of art is how such common things can be beautifully weaved into art. Things that one would not consider of any value could be turned into something unique under the hand of an artist. They are the inspiration to a series of journals called A Moment in Time.
Kiyomi learnt this style of weaving from another artist, and I hope to feature her art one day.
